Guess Country: Shape
Guess the country from its silhouette. Distance and direction reveal how close each guess is.
01about
Guess Country is a free daily geography guessing game. Each day brings a brand-new challenge: a silhouette of a world country appears with no map labels, no borders and no hints — just the bare outline. Your task is to recognize the shape and name the nation in six tries or fewer. Everyone around the world gets the same country on the same day, so you can compare your result with friends and millions of other players. It's a bite-sized test of world geography, visual memory and deductive reasoning — a new puzzle drops every 24 hours.
02how to play
Takes seconds to learn, practice to master:
- Read the silhouette — the filled shape is today's target country, no names or borders.
- Open the country list — tap the input bar to browse 190+ world countries.
- Submit a guess — pick a country and press Guess to lock it in.
- Decode the feedback — each guess returns distance, direction and a proximity %.
- Follow hot and cold — green means close, blue means far.
- Solve in six — 6 attempts; fewer tries means a better record.

04tips & strategy
- Start broad — open with a guess in the region you suspect to get an early distance reading.
- Watch the coastlines — distinctive shorelines like Italy's boot are easy to spot from their outline.
- Use direction — if the feedback says "north", guess north of your last attempt.
- Learn one region at a time — over weeks you'll internalize the whole world map by shape.
the daily rhythm
One silhouette per day, worldwide. The puzzle resets for everyone at the same moment, so the shape you are staring at is the shape your friends, classmates and coworkers are staring at too. There is no archive of past puzzles and no way to peek at tomorrow — the scarcity is the point, and it is what makes a six-guess win worth mentioning at dinner.
who it is for
Commuters, geography nerds, teachers looking for a five-minute warm-up, and anyone who likes being slightly smarter on Friday than they were on Monday. You never really lose — you just run out of guesses — and every attempt teaches you something about where things actually are on the map. Bring a pencil-edge of curiosity; the game supplies the rest.
what the feedback teaches you
Every miss comes back with two facts: how far you landed from the target, and which way to aim next. That loop — guess, measure, correct — quietly does what a week of flashcards cannot: it attaches a sense of direction to names you have only ever seen in lists. After a few weeks of silhouettes you stop reciting places and start reasoning about them. Chile has to be that long thin ribbon; the shape with the notch probably sits somewhere near the Mediterranean. The game never lectures; it just keeps score while your mental map sharpens itself, one honest miss at a time.
bring your people
When the daily shape is particularly cruel, the natural move is to gang up on it. Create a private room, drop the invite link into a group chat, and suddenly the puzzle has a scoreboard: one friend recognises the coastline instantly, another argues about whether that bump is a peninsula, a third quietly wins in three guesses. Rooms keep the same honest referee — every guess is validated on the server, so nobody can peek — and the room dissolves on its own when the match ends. Nothing to install, no account required, free in any browser.
